Root canal treatment (RCT) is often referred to as endodontics and is a treatment where a tooth nerve or blood supply becomes infected through injury or tooth decay.
Put simply, if your tooth becomes infected it can quickly spread and potentially cause a painful abscess and may require tooth extraction.
Root canal treatment looks to remove all the infection from your root canal, which is then cleaned, shaped and filled with a filling.
RCT is carried out under a local anaesthetic so you shouldn’t feel any pain during the treatment, though small discomfort is to be expected post-treatment.
